Brief info
Satvinder Kaur is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, UCSI University where she has been a faculty member since 2008. She is currently a Senior Lecturer for Nutrition with Wellness programme.
Satvinder completed her Ph.D. in Nutritional Epidemiology from Universiti Sains Malaysia and her Masters in Clinical Nutrition from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Community Health from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Satvinder received several awards for her research initiatives. In 2019, she was awarded as one of the best-guided poster presenters at International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome (ICOMES) & Asia-Oceania Conference on Obesity (AOCO) in Seoul, South Korea. Meanwhile, in 2018, she was granted Best Postgraduate Thesis Prize for her PhD by the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. Besides that, she received 2nd prize at an international conference in Hyderabad, India, for her research in young adult's diet pattern. She was awarded the Young Researcher Award for the Poster category in the 1st Southeast Asia Public Health Nutrition conference (2017). Since 2018, she has been appointed as one of the committee member for National Coordinating Committee for Food and Nutrition (NCCFN) by Ministry of Health Malaysia. As for 2019-2020, she was appointed as one of the authors for Malaysia Dietary Guidelines (2020-2030) under key recommendation on milk and its products.
Apart from that, she is actively doing research in the field of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and maternal and child nutrition, especially in chrononutrition and circadian rhythm. She has been actively involved in advocating healthy habits and nutrition education through talk series and workshops for corporate companies and the public at large. Besides that, Dr.Satvin has written articles in the past for health magazines such as Positive Parenting and was also featured in leading local newspapers sharing her nutritional health knowledge.
